The Vernal Witchhazel is an interesting plant for the landscape. The flowers have an unusual appearance and, perhaps most noteworthy, usually appear sometime between January and March for a few weeks. On very cold days, the petals will actually roll up to protect themselves from the harsh conditions of winter, extending flowering time. The fall color is usually a very attractive yellow. This shrub can be used as an unpruned hedge, in groupings, or as a screening plant.
