Patios & Hardscaping in Chicago
The patio is the central gathering space outside of the house, and often the largest investment in outdoor living. Today’s paved spaces are designed to function in a similar way to those inside the home, often with furniture and appliances that also mirror the interior. Spaces like outdoor kitchens and family rooms can be clearly defined or even separated by plantings and structures, creating multiple areas to entertain and appreciate outdoor living.
Styles change over time. Modern designs have become more linear as we try to maximize usable space and fit furniture and other structures. Material options have evolved greatly due to innovations in manufacturing, with many man-made products very closely mimicking natural stone. Natural stone, however, remains the preferred material for many. True and everlasting colors, higher durability and overall warmth of natural stone cannot be fully replicated. Newer quarrying techniques have increased our options for types, styles, sizes and colors of natural stone available. Using locally quarried stone is also a way to be more environmentally responsible.
At Grant & Power, we are proud of the fact that we consistently exceed the manufacturer’s recommendations when it comes to building paved surfaces. Excavating to proper depths, installing the appropriate base material, in lifts, and using the best equipment to cut, shape and set pavers are what sets us apart. Many contractors cut corners to keep costs and prices down, but our experience is that these cut corners most often result in an inferior and failing surface after a very short time.
