English Ivy is probably the most well-known of all groundcovers. It grows best in rich, well-drained, moist soil although it tolerates a wide variety of soils. In the Midwest, English Ivy grows best in shade and can be evergreen, but then requires protection from winter sun and wind. It is especially attractive when planted beneath trees and shrubs.
