Elk Grove Village is a village in Cook and DuPage counties in the U.S. state of Illinois, with a population of 32,812 as of the 2020 census. Located 20 miles northwest of Chicago along the Golden Corridor, it was incorporated on July 17, 1956. It is conveniently close to O’Hare International Airport, and its large industrial park makes it an economically important asset to the Chicago metropolitan area. The community has easy access to several interstate highways including I-90, I-290/I-355/Route 53 and IL-390. Upon completion of the I-490 Western O’Hare Bypass project, Elk Grove would also be serviced by this highway.

The land that is now Elk Grove Village was first controlled by the Miami Confederacy (comprising Illini and Kickapoo tribes) during the early 1680s until it was taken over by Iroquois and Fox towards the beginning of 1700s. Subsequently, coming from their territories near Detroit and Green Bay, the French-allied Potawatomi people began migrating southwards and expanding westward around 1700; they eventually established an L-shaped territory stretching between Green Bay and Illinois River while reaching Mississippi River to its east & Maumee River in its north-west.

In 1833, after signing the Treaty of Chicago with United States Government in exchange for a tract of land west of Mississippi River – ceding all land west of Lake Michigan & east of Lake Winnebago – mass white immigration followed suit into Northern Illinois area including Aaron Miner – revolutionary war veteran who moved near current Elk Grove boundaries in 1833 — who maintained friendly relations with local Potawatomi tribe exchanging baked cookies for venison & game.
