Birch, River
River Birch is pyramidal in youth, often rounded in outline at maturity. This tree is more handsome when grown as a multi-stemmed specimen. On branches 2″ or greater diameter the bark exfoliates into papery plates and expose the inner bark which is colored gray-brown to cinnamon-brown to reddish-brown. This feature makes River Birch stand out in the landscape throughout the year. River Birch adapts to moist soils.
